WVU Club Baseball survives Pittsburgh University 5-4 thanks to Knapp’s late-game heroics
Andrew Knapp drove in the go-ahead run to give WVU Club Baseball the lead in the sixth inning, as WVU Club Baseball hung on to beat Pittsburgh University 5-4 on Wednesday. Knapp came to the plate with zero outs in the sixth and hit a grand slam, plating James Smilkstein, Tyler Domer and Eric Becht.
Hegedus had a sound game at the plate for Pittsburgh University. Hegedus went 2-4 and scored two runs. Hegedus singled in the second inning and tripled in the third inning.
Pittsburgh University jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the second. Pittsburgh University’s rally started when Hegedus singled. A single by Badzgon then moved Hegedus from first to second. Rybarczyk singled, plating Hegedus. More runs came home for Pittsburgh University when Winters scored on an error.

West Virginia University Club Baseball was founded in 2005. This is an organized team that gives students a chance to play at the collegiate level. The team competes in the National Club Baseball Association in the District I-South along with Penn State, California University of Pennsylvania, St.Francis, Robert Morris, and Carnegie Mellon. As the WVU Club Baseball team begins its sixth season, we look to build a stronger team and improve our status in the conference and league. The club team plays all their home games at Mylan Park.
